Peoplebot is a differential drive telepresence robot produced by ActivMedia Robotics. It was developed on top of the Pioneer 2 base used by Elmur and Taz. Peoplebot is equipped with an articulatable gripper that can be freely moved up and down most of its height, limited by mechanical endstops within a few inches of each end.

Hardware[edit]

  • Upper and lower 360 degree sonar arrays
  • Directional bump sensors across front of base
  • Break beam sensors from base to top

Control[edit]

Peoplebot is controller by a proprietary microcontroller board produced by ActivMedia specifically for the Pioneer platform. Interface with this controller is possible over a standard RS232 9-Pin D-Sub connection in the left support using a custom application protocol named ARIA (Advanced Robot Interface for Applications). Peoplebot does not currently have an onboard computer. Although it originally shipped with one, it was removed some time before 2015 and never replaced.
